Functional Cupping Ellenbrook
Functional Cupping for Muscular Tension & Mobility
Functional cupping is a modern treatment technique that combines therapeutic cupping with movement. Unlike traditional static cupping, functional cupping may involve actively moving a joint or muscle while cups are applied to selected areas.
At Revive & Thrive Remedial Massage, functional cupping can be incorporated into your remedial massage treatment where appropriate to help reduce muscular tension, improve mobility and support recovery.
What Can Functional Cupping Help With?
Functional cupping may be useful for:
• Neck and shoulder muscular tension
• Tight upper back muscles
• Lower back and hip muscular tightness
• Restricted muscular movement
• Sports-related muscle tightness
• Post-training muscular recovery
• General muscular tension
How Functional Cupping Works
Cups create negative pressure over the skin and superficial tissues. Depending on the treatment goal, the cups may remain stationary, be moved by the therapist, or be combined with specific movements and stretches.
This allows functional cupping to be integrated with a broader remedial massage treatment rather than being used as a stand-alone approach.
Combined with Remedial Massage
Your treatment is tailored to your individual presentation. Where appropriate, functional cupping may be combined with remedial massage, deep tissue techniques, neuromuscular therapy (NMT), trigger point techniques, Muscle Energy Technique (MET) or dry needling.
What to Expect
Your treatment and the areas to be cupped will be discussed before treatment. Cupping can temporarily leave circular marks or skin discolouration, which generally fades over time. Your therapist will explain what to expect and obtain your consent before treatment.
